For those of you interested in electrical engineering, IEEE Xplore has a new look. It still offers the full text of all their journals, conferences, and standards, but it uses new words that might be confusing.

The word ‘metadata’ appears on the search page several times. Think of ‘metadata’ as keywords. When you search ‘metadata’, you are searching the abstract, title, and all the indexing terms. As you scroll down the search page you can limit to particular publishers, types of publication, subjects, and years.

If you are looking for one particular article, use the Publication Quick Search tab. The Browse tab at the very top of the search page is good; especially if you’re looking for a standard. You can browse the standards by number or subject.
