The library just expanded its offerings of streaming video for you to use for research and teaching! We just subscribed to Academic Video Online (AVON) to give you more options. It is available through two platforms you may already be familiar with: ProQuest and Alexander Street Press. Use whichever one you prefer!
AVON offers almost 70,000 titles spanning a wide range of subject areas – including anthropology, business, counseling, film, health, history, and music. This resource includes Sony Classic Pictures, PBS, BBC, 60 MINUTES, National Geographic, Annenberg Learner, BroadwayHD™, and A+E Networks’ HISTORY.
Kanopy is another extensive and very popular resource for current film – feature films, documentaries, independent film, Hollywood and international classics, and much more. The library’s access to this wonderful resource is explicitly for your academic use: research and teaching. Another way the library supports your work here at Hopkins!
In addition to AVON and Kanopy, the library has access to these streaming resources across many disciplines:
- Berlin Philharmonic Digital Concert Hall
- Counseling and Therapy Videos
- Education in Video
- Ethnographic Video Online
- Films on Demand: Business and Economics Videostreaming Collection
- Medici.tv
- Music Online: Performance in Video
- Open Vault: WGBH Media Library and Archives
One final point to keep in mind is that the library also routinely licenses streaming videos for particular classes through our Library Reserves system. So, if you’re in a class that is using film, your instructor may have video streaming set up for you through us! Please ask your instructor.
