Spring is here, and that means that sci fi/fantasy gaming fans are prepping for two beloved events: DMC Game Night, and JohnCon 2012!
DMC Game Night
Where: the Offit Building of the Mattin Center
When: Saturday, March 31, from 10PM – 1AM
Who: JHU affiliates
Cost: FREE
We will be playing Left for Dead 2, League of Legends, outdoor DDR (Dance Dance Revolution; weather permitting), and old favorites like Halo and Super Smash Bros. There will be free food and prizes!
Did you know that for JHU students only, the DMC (Digital Media Center has a games lounge for playing and a lab for developing games? (You can even borrow game consoles.) The gaming lab was created during the 2008-2009 academic year, in conjunction with the Computer Science department’s Video Game Design class. The students work in groups, each of which includes a programmer, visual artist, writer, and composer.
JohnCon
JohnCon is Hopkins’ annual sci fi/gaming convention, run by our own scifi society, HopSFA (recent tech glitches have prevented site updating, unfortunately).
Where: Levering Hall
When: Friday, April 6, from 5PM through Sunday, April 8, around 12 noon
Who: Public
Cost: FREE
While JHU has a history of science-fiction-related activities, JohnCon’s more recent emphasis has been on gaming, This year, a vendor will be bringing games for everyone to test, and there will be the usual intense, pen-and-paper RPG’s including The Call of Cthulhu and Dungeons and Dragons, among others (my D&D character was a cowardly alchemist).
There will also be a panel on plastic modeling, including gundams.
Bone up ahead of time with our e-books on gaming — learn to create your own with help on design, programming, sound, visual effects, and more.
Hope to see you there (maybe at JohnCon’s evening laser tag contests)!
