This winter, get to know the staff responsible for keeping the Johns Hopkins Sheridan Libraries and University Museums running. Today’s feature: Caitlyn Adams!
Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Caitlyn Adams, and I am a part-time (ish) employee at Homewood Museum. I say -ish because I only work on Sundays and cover if I can if needed.
Tell us a little about your background.
I graduated from Towson University in 2022 with a Bachelor of Science in Anthropology and Sociology, but I have been focusing in the field of Archaeology. I am currently back in school for Public Health and Nutrition at Morgan State University and I am back at Towson working for my professor and mentor, Dr. Katherine Sterner.
What is something people might be surprised to know about you?
I have moved seven times in my life, attended (now) four undergraduate schools, and I am learning ASL.
What’s the best part about working at the Sheridan Libraries & University Museums?
I really love the museum environment! I grew up visiting and enjoying museums because I find learning about and from the past to be very insightful! I also enjoy interacting with visitors who want to learn, grow, and are interested in the story behind sites of history.
What is your favorite hobby?
I love to hike! One of the many focuses I have had while in undergrad was environmental science. I love to be out in nature and study how everything flows with each other and interacts with each other.
Imagine you are a ghost. What 3 objects would someone need to conjure you? Why?
I have always thought about messing with people as a ghost if, for some reason, I could not move on and be at peace. Three items to conjure me up would be the book Legendborn written by Tracy Deonn, a sunflower, and a Dirty Shirley drink. These three items represent different aspects of who I am and how people who are close to me understand me to be. I am exciting and adventurous like many of Tracy Deonn’s books. I am soft, friendly, caring, and bright like a sunflower. I love to drink, but I am not an alcoholic, and I can be spicy!
If you could be a background character in a book/film/show/game, what book/film/show/game would it be? Why?
I really love adventure and fantasy because it helps me to escape the harshness of our individual and collective realities. I would probably choose Harry Potter so I can be a wizard, fly around on a broom, and practice becoming an herbologist.
If you didn’t do the job you have now, what would you be? Why?
I would be a nutritionist who educates different groups of people about eating better for their bodies! I would also want to be able to have freedom from being confined to a desk so I could travel and work.
Name three songs that would be on the soundtrack of your life.
My top three songs from my Lived Life Album would be: Fly by Lenny Kravitz, Break My Soul by Beyoncé, and Bubbly by Colbie Caillat.
What’s the best concert you’ve ever seen? What made it special?
So far, the best concert I have ever been to was Avril Lavigne because I have always wanted to see her perform since elementary school. She creates songs that speak to feeling emotions and sitting with them and rocking out with no care in the world. She has always been very inspirational to me!
