Join the Friends of the Johns Hopkins University Libraries as we welcome best selling author Amitav Ghosh, who will read from his latest novel, River of Smoke.

Ghosh was born in Calcutta and grew up in India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. He is the author of The Circle of Reason, The Shadow Lines, In An Antique Land, Dancing in Cambodia, The Calcutta Chromosome, The Glass Palace, The Hungry Tide, and Sea of Poppies, which was shortlisted for the 2008 Man Booker Prize.

River of Smoke is his latest novel and the second of a proposed trilogy that began with Sea of Poppies. Ghosh’s work has been translated into 20 languages, and his essays have appeared in The New Yorker, The New Republic, and The New York Times. He has taught at Delhi University, Columbia University, Queens College, and Harvard University. Ghosh divides his time between Calcutta, Goa, and Brooklyn.
