Since 1930, the Political Handbook of the World has provided readers with extensive information about the systems of government and the political parties for all the countries in the world. In addition, profiles of 120 intergovernmental organizations, such as the OPEC, NATO, and the African Union are included. Now three editions of the book, including the 2010 edition, are available online in the CQ Electronic Library.

The electronic format allows you to sort and create lists of regimes that are democracies, dictatorships, and those that fall in between. For example Afghanistan is classified as a democratic regime with a democracy type of semi-democracy while Zimbabwe is a dictatorship with a democracy type of non-democracy. Party systems can be sorted by one, multi-party, limited or hyper-party systems. This is an excellent reference source that now is only a click away.
