‘A Suitcase Full of Pop-Up Books’
Evergreen Museum & Library (North Wing)
Watch Paul Johnson pull a library’s worth of pop-up books — many his own, others made by British schoolchildren — from a single suitcase! He’ll talk about the endless power of the book as an aesthetic, architectural form and its special fascination for children of all ages.
England-based Paul Johnson is internationally recognized as a book artist and for his pioneering work in developing literacy through the book arts. He is the author of over fifteen books, including A Book of One’s Own, Literacy Through the Book Arts, and Pictures and Words Together, all published by Heinemann, USA.
Johnson’s work is represented in most of the major collections in the United States, including the Cooper-Hewitt Museum in New York and the Library of Congress.
