The beginning of October marks the start of “Nobel season“. The first prize awarded is in medicine (October 8 this year). Other prizes are also scheduled to be announced on specific days. But for the best of all Nobel prizes (IMHO), Literature, the Academy always keeps the exact date a secret, as well as the fabled “short list†of 5 contenders for the annual honor.
Names that are usually tossed about include Philip Roth, Mario Vargas Llosa, Joyce Carol Oates, and Salman Rushdie. Personally, I’m rooting for the Spanish writer (who writes in French), Jorge Semprun. Stayed tuned to the Library Blog. The winner will appear here on the morning of October…..
