We’re planning a library expansion adjacent to the Milton S. Eisenhower Library. The building will be built for technology-driven, collaborative learning and named the Brody Learning Commons to honor former president William R. Brody and his wife, Wendy.

One thing I can’t find in any of the articles is where, exactly, the Brody Learning Commons is going to be constructed. I know it’s going to be south of the library; is it going to be based directly south of D-level, in the depression/parking lot by the Merrick Barn, or is it going to be southeast, in that lovely bit of quad overlooking the beach and adjacent to the Mattin Center? I understand the need for a new building, and it sounds like a really neat project, but the quad is a nice place to study or relax when you don’t want full sun or quite as many people as the beach, and it would be a shame to lose all the trees.

Thanks for your note. We’re still in the very early design stages and so haven’t determined the exact site of the Brody Learning Commons. However, we have identified the south side of MSEL as the most likely area. As we get further along in this process, we will be sharing more specific information with students, faculty, and the larger Hopkins community.
